On December 22nd 1996 the mod was released for QuakeWorld, the official multiplayer-optimised version of Quake. After 8 months all 9 classes had been added, according to the changelog. Version 1 of TF was released for Quake with 5 classes: Scout, Sniper, Soldier, Demolitions Man and Medic. However, TF allowed players to choose vastly different classes for the first time. In standard multiplayer deathmatch modes players had the same skins and the same weapons to choose from. Prior to Team Fortress, class-based gameplay was not common in FPS games.
Team Fortress was a unique Quake mod upon release on August 24th 1996. So, it's more likely to kill a giant HW Guy than a little Scout (funny, huh?) These are probably the most powerful grenades in TFC, especially against big groups of people, because the damage will STACK.Team Fortress started as a Quake mod and was designed by Robin Walker, John Cook and Ian Caughley.
The more ammunition an enemy player in its blast radius has, the more damage it does. He has regular Hand Grenades, and EMP Grenades. Railgun is great for long-range, and the shotgun is great for defending yourself. Engineer comes with his Wrench, Railgun, and a Shotgun. Also, a little-known fact about the Engineer is that he can repair/increase teammate's armor by hitting them with his wrench. Teammates can also press X to drop extra ammo, which, as an Engineer, you can collect as metal. Collect metal by touching backpacks scattered around the map or the ones players drop when they die. To do those things to your buildings, you will need metal.

Hit your buildings with your wrench to upgrade them, heal them, or put in more ammunition. The more resouces the dispenser has, the more damage the explosion will do. If they're an enemy spy, you will see blood come out when you shoot them.Įngineers can build Sentries for defense (Upgradable, Levels 1-3, the higher the level the more damage it can do), dispensers (can create ammunition and armor,) and teleporters to teleport teammates to the front lines faster (or even behind it, if you're "sneaky.") The player can detonate buildings to kill or damage any enemy near it. TIP: If you think someone is a spy, "spy-check" them by shooting at them. It may take a while to get good at Spy, but it sure is fun to play. Hallucination Grenades will cause enemies in its radius to take small damage, and begin to hallucinate objects appearing around them. Spy has regular Hand Grenades and Hallucination Grenades.
I have never found myself using the nailgun for Spy it could be used for destroying sentries at long range, though.
The Super-Shotgun is great for defending yourself and dishing out good damage. This is a great weapon to use when you're being chased, and to help your team out. Stabbing someone with the Knife from behind results in an instant-kill (though, it can sometimes be glitchy, sometimes I'll be cutting someone from behind with the knife, but it only registers as a little shank, so you need to be pretty accurate.) Your tranquilizer gun does pathetic damage, but it will reduce the enemy you hit it with's movement and turning speed by half. Disguise, approach the sentry (better to use less-popular routes) and toss a Hand Grenade its way! Spy comes with a Knife, Tranquilizer Gun, Shotgun, and a Nailgun. While disguised as an enemy, sentries will not fire at you, and you will appear as an a friendly teammate to the enemy team. It takes about ten seconds to disguise, so you should take cover while disguising if you're at the front lines. You can disguise as any class on any team, feign your own death, and uncover an enemy spy's disguise by touching them. This is probably the most difficult class to play in TFC.
